NOTE: Purim 5775 starts Wednesday night, March 4, 2015, and continues until sundown on Thursday.
Purim message by Rav Cherki:
The Jews defied Haman by refusing to follow his dictatorial commands. At the time, many non-Jews took on Jewish customs and became Noahides. The wine of Purim symbolizes the fact that all of mankind receives their life from G-d.
- Purim is part of the chain of victories in the war between Israel and Amalek that has continued for thousands of years. Haman cannot tolerate the fact somebody will not bow down and surrender to his dicatorial commands. Israel shows that there is something beyond the regular order, and this is what we celebrate on Purim.
- There is historical testimony that during the time of Mordechai and Esther the influence of the Jewish customs expanded greatly in the Persian empire. Today more and more people from all over the world are becoming Noahides and accepting the blessed influence of Judaism.
- The central theme of Purim is wine. The Talmud teaches us that the world stretches out in front of one who is intoxicated as a flat plane. That is, everything is one in front of the Creator. He gives everyone life, without any distinction between different nations. Therefore, Esther was handed over to the other nations and she worked from within the system to advance the world. All of our influence, which until now was hidden and concealed, has started to be revealed in our times, through the State of Israel.
