"We do not accept the division of Dar al-Harb and Dar al-Islam; this is an invention of the Muslim Brotherhood."
What happened next
From an open letter to a conversation.
The letter
In the weeks after October 7, Rabbi Cherki wrote "A Bridge between Faiths: An Open Letter to Islam". Where Judaism and Islam agree, where they do not, and what recognition would make coexistence possible.
The distribution
Carried by AP News and syndicated to more than two hundred news outlets, and published in Arabic.
The Emirates
Rabbi Cherki was invited to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. In meetings with Dr. Ali Rashid al-Nuaimi and Sheikh Abu Talib Al-Shihi, the hard questions were asked out loud, and answered.
The answers
Within months, letters arrived from Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Australia. They are printed in full in this booklet, alongside the original letter.
